You are right in the sense Issue 31 feels in keeping with the spidey issues of the time....but read on to the continuation of the saga in issues 32 and 33...This is why they're so highly regarded. Of course, it's my all time favorite Spider-Man comic so there's that. But the soul searching Spidey does as he swings across New York rooftops, the fight with Gwen, the cops chasing him to the point of shooting at him, the rage Spidey feels as he goes on his "beat-the-punks" tirade, the brouhaha with the Kingpin, the showdown with JJJ and perhaps most of all, the art, defined Spider-Man to me for the rest of my life.

And "nag"? Bite your tongue. That Gwen could be that angry with Peter and still love him was an education for little five year old me. "Like I should have my head examined but maybe I'm just too dumb to write you off!" I knew then, in life, to find someone who loves you as much as Gwen loves Peter. (And luckily, I have.)Da Prophethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02953362652164177229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8614048939811145672.post-52817702509444800112017-09-28T08:26:31.162+01:002017-09-28T08:26:31.162+01:00Hi, Matt. I am currently aware of how Daredevil came about but whether that was the case back then, I couldn't say.

I have a soft spot for Daredevil but suspect that his higher social status than Peter Parker, his less imaginative costume, smaller supporting cast and less inspired villain's gallery all conspired to make him less popular than Spidey. The Cryptic Critichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17244329776376849506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8614048939811145672.post-34201856470021059422017-09-28T04:15:52.419+01:002017-09-28T04:15:52.419+01:00I assume you are just kidding here, but it's w...I assume you are just kidding here, but it's well known that Daredevil came about because Martin Goodman told Stan Lee, "Give me another Spider-Man." Stan, creative fellow that he was, did as much as possible to differentiate them (teenager vs. professional adult, DD's blindness) while still adhering to the mission statement. Spider-Man was an established hot. DD never really caught on, maybe because he was a less "inspired" creation, but I would bet the inability to get a permanent artist for years held him back a bit as well. Also, DD was supposed to debut in 1963 but the Avengers were rushed into the schedule instead due to delays with DD production. I'm a huge DD fan as well as a big Spider-fan, so on the formerly rare occasions when they teamed up, it was quite a great and selling point for me!Doc Savagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08783244633195233970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8614048939811145672.post-81676488607359274832015-12-01T08:56:43.241+00:002015-12-01T08:56:43.241+00:00Hi, Cecil. It always seems to me that if they were going to reveal that the Jackal was someone known to Spider-Man, that it would have made more sense for it to be Harry Osborne who had an established reason to hate Spider-Man. Sadly, they were clearly determined to turn him into the second Green Goblin instead. The Cryptic Critichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17244329776376849506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8614048939811145672.post-7900463171478357642015-12-01T00:53:07.269+00:002015-12-01T00:53:07.269+00:00I never realized what a disappointing reveal Profe...I never realized what a disappointing reveal Professor Warren was to anyone. I've been playing with revising this storyline to gain a couple of useful ends that would be nice to imagine in some alternative world's Amazing Spider-Man comics. My plot would play out in #150. I think it's a habit that people pick up in sports early in life (as it's mostly sports friends with whom I do this). Coaches call you all by your last names, and then you do it to each other. Actually, it's always struck me as something perfectly normal about the Marvel U that some characters speak to one another this way. It's WAY more realistic than them calling one another by their codenames (when they're just standing around and talking), in my opinion.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15304178130464809737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8614048939811145672.post-64979441706252877102012-07-01T19:36:09.232+01:002012-07-01T19:36:09.232+01:00Hi, Bruce. It was one of the first times a new X-Man had appeared in another comic, and it is interesting how Nightcrawler is concerned about being seen because he isn't sure Professor X wants the world to know about them yet.Brucehttp://www.squidoo.com/essential-Spiderman-8-book-reviewnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8614048939811145672.post-16542174820334957112012-06-18T23:08:22.098+01:002012-06-18T23:08:22.098+01:00It's great value for money, that's for sur...It's great value for money, that's for sure. :)The Cryptic Critichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17244329776376849506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8614048939811145672.post-31542962614162397982012-06-18T11:39:27.181+01:002012-06-18T11:39:27.181+01:00What a treat this issue is.
